Authenticité. Artisanat. Feu.

The Forge de Laguiole Story
Forge de Laguiole's Heritage
Forge de Laguiole is located in the village of Laguiole, where the Laguiole knife tradition began in 1828. Every Forge de Laguiole piece is handcrafted in the company's manufactory in Laguiole, continuing a local craft that has been passed down through generations.
Situated at 1,100 metres on the Aubrac plateau, the village and its surrounding landscape continue to inspire the artisans who create each piece. The strength, simplicity and character of the region remain deeply connected to the identity of Forge de Laguiole.
AUTHENTICITY
Authenticity begins with origin. Every Forge de Laguiole piece is handcrafted in the company's manufactory in the village of Laguiole and bears the Forge de Laguiole signature. Each piece reflects the ancestral know-how associated with the Laguiole knife tradition and the expertise of the master knifemakers who create it. Every original Forge de Laguiole knife is stamped with the Forge de Laguiole logo and carries the mark of the artisan responsible for its creation, ensuring traceability and authenticity.
Craftsmanship
From design and forging to assembly, polishing and sharpening, every stage takes place in the Forge de Laguiole manufactory in Laguiole. The blades are forged at temperatures of around 1,000°C before being shaped, assembled and finished by hand according to traditional methods. Forge de Laguiole combines the expertise of master knifemakers with the precision of goldsmith craftsmanship. From hand-chiselled decoration to the final sharpening, every detail contributes to the character and quality of the finished piece.
Natural Materials
Forge de Laguiole combines high-performance steel with carefully selected natural materials. Handles are crafted from materials such as wood and horn, chosen for their beauty, durability and individual character. Each material carries its own grain, colour and texture, making every piece unique. The blades are forged from proprietary French T12 steel, developed to provide exceptional cutting performance, edge retention and durability. This combination of noble materials and traditional craftsmanship defines the identity of Forge de Laguiole.
Care
To preserve the beauty and performance of your Forge de Laguiole piece, we recommend cleaning it by hand and drying it immediately after use. Natural materials such as wood and horn benefit from careful handling and should be protected from prolonged exposure to moisture. With proper care, a Forge de Laguiole piece is designed to accompany its owner for many years. The manufactory itself offers services such as sharpening and polishing, reflecting its commitment to the longevity of every piece it creates.
